A supporter of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) which planned to organize terrorist attacks against military installations was eliminated in the Murmansk region of northern Russia in the city of Kandalaksha, the Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Thursday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – October 28, 2021) A supporter of the terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIS, banned in Russia) who planned to organize terrorist attacks against military installations has been eliminated in the Murmansk region, in the northern Russian city of Kandalaksha, the Federal Security Service (FSB) said Thursday.

The activities of the local resident who planned “to carry out terrorist attacks against regional military installations under the direction of foreign ISIS emissaries” have been exposed and suppressed, the security service said.

“When attempting to arrest the criminal while he was taking an improvised explosive device out of a cache on the outskirts of Kandalaksha, he put up armed resistance to FSB members and was eliminated,” the FSB added.

No civilians or law enforcement officers were injured, the security service noted.

Improvised explosives, bladed weapons and firearms, as well as ammunition of various calibers were seized during searches of the apartment of the IS supporter and at the scene of the incident.
